1. WE PROVIDE EDUCATION SUPPORT
In Tanzania Primary School is free of charge but those who can not buy school uniform, shoes, school bag, and textbooks for their children can not send them to school. That is where we start and where we started in 2011. Together with Ni Hekima Pekee (NIHEP) we have developed an education support program and a life skills program for girls/young women. The staff of NIHEP also monitor a program for income generating for parents and a program for good parenting. Within the programs future leaders are educated to mentor their own groups.
”In the program for good parenting we also talk about subjects that are discussed in the girls sessions and the problems they share. It is extremely important as the responsibility should not only be on the girls alone.”

2. WE INVEST IN COMMUNITY BASED PROJECTS AND PARTNERSHIPS
We believe that locally based organizations are the best to work with developing their community. That is why we work with NIHEP. They in turn collaborate locally in networks of organizations, authorities, and social institutions. They know their community and culture and are the right ones to identify needs and measures.
Nobody wants to be dependent on charity. The beneficiaries want to survive by their own force. Besides, NIHEP also wishes to be independent and able to work by their own means. Mwembe will support NIHEP financially until they can be self-supportive in a social entrepreneurship and with means from the local community.
3. WE INSPIRE TO POSITIVE CHANGE
Positive change is happening continuously all around the world, but we seldom hear about them in the media news. We wish to share positive news and encourage local innovators and future leaders both in Mwanza. Let us come away from victimizing – all humans have a right to dignity – and focus on potential. Simultaneously we wish to inspire global responsibility. The big social challenges in the world can not be solved by one separate unit alone. We strongly believe in cooperation and in an ecosystem of organizations, entrepreneurs, authorities and individuals working for equal societies together.
4. WE CREATE SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH PREVENTION
We believe in qualitative activities not based on numbers. NIHEP works in all sectors, on all levels, with the children, their caregivers, teachers, social workers, the police, health workers and other significant actors in the community. It is a long-term work and as everything is connected it is not enough to only work on one level.
5. WE PAVE THE WAY OUT OF EXTREME POVERTY
There are families living in extreme poverty, without necessities and in continuous lack of food, which in some cases lead to severe malnutrition. It is under such circumstances difficult to keep a hope about a brighter future and for the children difficult to concentrate on schoolwork. Through giving access to basic health care and through a start package* they can find their ways of income generating, to find their own potential.
The start kit contains basic food, bed set and basic kitchen utensils. Read how to donate a start kit →, or other ways you can support →
”The United Nations have through the global goals determined the ambition that extreme poverty will be revoked in the year 2030 (goal 1.1.) Through these goals it was also stated that all humans have the same rights and nobody should be neglected or forgotten. Children represent almost a third of the world’s population but over a half of the population live in extreme poverty.”
